“The bicycle that everyone can ride and the radio program that everyone can listen to”

When we were looking for ways to reach and share our stories with more people, we offered a radio program to Open Radio. As a part of the Open Magazine, we started our bi-weekly radio program Trapeze Frame on the 13 of November 2018. It started on the 48th broadcasting term and is broadcast on Tuesday evenings at 19:00 (GMT+3). During the program women cyclists take word and share their own experiences about their own bicycles and cycling life.

The program is prepared and presented by Seçil Zor and Zeynep Arapoğlu, who are members of the WoBi and it is currently running at the 49th broadcasting period of  Open Radio. During our first term with 13 programs, we hosted 21 women

Cycling is a male-dominated area in Turkey. The Trapeze Frame program highlights women cyclists. They appear as guests on the radio program and tell their own stories of cycling, explain how cycling changed their lives, why cycling is so important to them. In addition to this, during the program, we are told how women on bicycle seek to motivate other women to cycle in their daily lives. They also touch on cycling in the city centre, cycling with the help of using public transportation, cycling on the way to work, cycling on the way for shopping, cycling the kids to school, etc. They also mention the types of suitable clothing for cycling, the devices useful while cycling with children, different experiences from different countries and different point of views.

What does Trapeze Frame mean?

The frame is the part of a bicycle where and which other parts are assembled. The frame material can be steel, aluminum, carbon, titanium or even bamboo and the frame can have different geometric shapes. Trapeze frame is the shape with which you can get on the bicycle easily without raising your leg. It is preferred especially in city bicycles since everybody at any age can use it easily. Our radio program aims to reach everybody so we named it as a bicycle frame which everybody can use.
